Storycard:
"Winged creatures in Asian art are often related to beliefs and philosophies. For example, cranes are cherished symbols of longevity in East Asia; they are believed to live a thousand years. Cranes are also thought to inhabit the Isle of Immortality. According to Chinese Daoist (Taoist) philosophy, the Isle of Immortality is the source of an elixir that insured eternal life. In many East Asian cultures, winged creatures are also associated with the changing seasons. Dragonflies, for example, signify the arrival of autumn. Finally, winged creatures are often appreciated purely for their beautiful appearance."
